ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – Harding junior post Jacque Fredendall connected on the second of two free throws with 1.1 seconds remaining to give the Lady Bisons a 70-69 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday in Gulf South Conference action.
Harding (11-3, 2-1) led 34-24 at halftime and maintained its lead until late in the second half. Ouachita Baptist (8-7, 0-3) dropped its fourth straight game and third in conference play.
Ouachita Baptist's Lizz Webb nailed a three-pointer with 2:39 left to give the Lady Tigers a 65-63 lead, its first advantage since midway through the first half. Harding answered with a three-pointer from Kinsey Tucker.
With the score tied Harding ahead 69-67 and 22 seconds remaining, Fredendall had a chance to seal the victory for Lady Bisons the lead but missed a layup. OBU's Lindsey Dooley then hit two free throws to tie the game at 69 with 8 seconds remaining.
Tucker took the in-bounds pass and dribbled the length of the floor before dishing to Fredendall under the basket. Dooley fouled Fredendall on the shot. The Lebanon, Mo., native, which had a season-high 12 rebounds, came up short on the first free throw, but rolled in the game-winner.
Fredendall, who scored 11, was one of four Lady Bison with 10 or more points. Freshman Kelsea Lyda led the team with 19 points in only 22 minutes off the bench. Tucker added 15 points and Catherine McMenamy added 12.
Dooly led Ouachita Baptist with 19 points and six assists. Webb scored 16 points in her first start of the season but also had nine turnovers. The Lady Tigers' regular starting point guard Bethaney Turner missed her first game after suffering a season-ending knee injury against Arkansas-Monticello.
Harding shot well in the first half, hitting 46 percent, while Ouachita Baptist struggled at 29 percent. The Lady Tigers were able to close the advantage thanks to 7-of-10 shooting from three-point range after the break.
Harding is back on the road Thursday night against Arkansas Tech. Tip-off at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville, Ark., is scheduled for 6 p.m.
